Siiqqee – Girls Clubs for Safety
Together with our partner Siiqqee Women’s Development Association, we have established 3 girls’ clubs in schools in Sebeta, Ethiopia. 917 girls have used the clubs in the past year.
Girls in Ethiopia often face major challenges in life. Early marriage and children, not being prioritized by the family to get an education and a lack of sanitary equipment are things that contribute to girls often dropping out of school.
In the girls’ clubs, the girls can receive follow-up from trained advisers, discuss challenges and solutions in groups with guidance, hang out with friends, pick up free sanitary equipment or simply just relax.
The clubs give the girls a safety net that catches them before they drop out of school. Both the girls and the school staff give good feedback on the positive effect of the girls’ clubs.
